Dear NYCDH friends,
Yesterday we launched Columbia University Digital Humanities—acentral informational portal for the varied digital humanities work at Columbia University, with a gallery of Projects, People and Teams, and a Brief History mini-essay to connect us to our precedents.
We did this so you can see that we are many and are doing wonderful work, but also that we may see each other better internally. Seeing all of our work together, and how that work has increased in the past five years, makes me particularly proud to be a part of the Columbia community in particular and the NYCDH community in general.
We also hope the design of the project can serve as a model for other institutions thinking of doing a similar site: the site is static, profiles are randomized; technologists, librarians, students and faculty get parity on the graphic design; we worked with an opt-in model where each department and unit has an “ambassador”; site is structured in such a way that can make it possible in the future to index projects; and much more. All feedback and questions are welcome.
