As part of Open Education Week 2016, the Modern Language Association (MLA) is leading two introductory WordPress workshops geared towards graduate students, faculty, librarians, and staff working in the humanities. WordPress is an open source tool for publishing and sharing information on the web. The MLA Commons (commons.mla.org) combines the WordPress platform with an online academic community, making the Commons an ideal place for MLA members to create, discuss, and share humanities research. Initiatives like the MLA Commons reveal the possibilities of using open source digital tools for academic projects.
Attendees will gain familiarity with the WordPress interface and also discuss and learn about ways they might use the platform in their academic work – be it for teaching, building a professional online presence and portfolio, or publishing and sharing scholarship.
