{"id":84,"date":"2015-12-10T23:33:19","date_gmt":"2015-12-10T23:33:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/art.nycdh.org\/?p=84"},"modified":"2017-09-07T15:37:22","modified_gmt":"2017-09-07T15:37:22","slug":"steering-committee-meeting-121015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nycdh.org\/art\/steering-committee-meeting-121015\/","title":{"rendered":"Steering Committee Meeting 12\/10\/15"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Meeting Attendees: Samantha Deutch, Gabriel Rodriguez, Jason Varone, Ellen Prokop, Helen Wall, Marija Dalbello, Lisa Schermerhorn, Molly Schoen, Francine Snyder<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Preliminary Meeting Notes:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">-Feb. 11, 10-12pm, 2-5pm is the official time for our participation in NYCDAH week.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Presenters for DAH: \u00a0Jason Varone: D3, open, dynamic data visualization; Samantha Deutch will provide lesson in scraping and visualizing in Carto DB; a presentation by Titia Hulst on cytoscape; JV and SD will show their shell database for image collection management; Ellen Prokop on El Greco project.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Afternoon tables in the marble room at the IFA: perhaps tables for all of the topics discussed in the morning. \u00a0Bring your laptop, interactive demos. \u00a0Sign up for the NYCDH website. \u00a0Flyers: Jason Varone suggests a flyer for WordPress. \u00a0Image management, photoshop (?), bibliographic tools (Zotero), data management, Google SketchUP<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">4 tables are appropriate for the marble room.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Networking via NYCDH website, need to reach out to DAH website team (Matt Gold) for image profile feature with interest tags (i.e. what are you interested in?). \u00a0\u00a0This would allow for networking. \u00a0Ellen Prokop will reach out.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jason may be able to involve NYU 3D printing lab, who could self-promote.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Art Historical problems involved in 3D printing, may be appropriate for the Spring.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Emily Spratt,employing computer vision technology to explore the processes of aesthetic interpretation and stylistic analysis, she may be available to talk. \u00a0She is starting a lab at Rutgers for these kinds of investigations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Spring Salon? \u00a0Perhaps any extra talks can be scheduled for this time.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rauschenberg Foundation for Spring Salon &#8212; restrictions: need a door person, only 75 people at a time, probably 4-6pm would be fine, anything later than that would need security which would be prohibitively expensive.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Early May would be possible time for Spring Salon, presentations of 3D and imaging would be appropriate for Rauschenberg mission. \u00a0Conservation through high res imaging.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tables would be good for Rauschenberg space.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jason to reach out to IFA student who studied the degradation of daguerreotypes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Marija Dalbello: Perhaps we should deal with inherent problems in interdisciplinarity of tools and subject matter. Learning to match tools with the questions. \u00a0Invitation to come with a problem. \u00a0Students should contribute as much as possible.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cBring your art historical problem\u201d: \u00a0Perhaps we could address questions in the afternoon with each tool. \u00a0May be too ambitious, would need questions beforehand. \u00a0It would be great to get people thinking in new ways about their problems.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Helen Wall: She gets the question often: \u201cHow to organize images?\u201d She uses Media Pro.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Perhaps we could get very specific with image management tools. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Student Award: \u00a0Samantha working with ARLIS for a DH award. \u00a0She has consulted with Barbara and they work with CUNY which acts as a repository for the funding. \u00a0Institutions donate money and they select a subcommittee to review the applications for the student award.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Idea to create some sort of \u201chackathon\u201d type event, use humanities generated data and get engineers to see what they can do with it. \u00a0Marija has many students she thinks would be interested in this. \u00a0Parsons, NYU will definitely have students. \u00a0Pairing an Art Historian with an engineer. \u00a0If we got the word out now this could be perfect for the fall. \u00a0Would pair them early, rather than on the spot. \u00a0They could then present at the end of the semester. \u00a0There should be some sort of prize.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jason, Marija, Molly, Samantha, Ellen and Francine would like to work on this. \u00a0Can start this in the Spring.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">February NYCDAH day will likely change our focus.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">February 11th:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">74 attendees max. \u00a0Should have volunteers to work the door. \u00a0What\u2019s our target audience: \u00a0students, museums, libraries. \u00a0Have opportunity to live broadcast. \u00a0Cap the RSVPs. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Should we use Paperless post? \u00a0Maybe just IFA system. \u00a0Samantha will send out invite using Paperless post.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Budget: \u00a0Printing, coffee, tea and cookies, water. \u00a0Perhaps we could just put all of the documentation related to the event on the NYCDH website. \u00a0Butterfield coffee service may be the way to go.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">From Kimon:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/jitpedagogy.org\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">http:\/\/jitpedagogy.org<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> will be doing a special issue on Digital Art History. \u00a0Call for content.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Emerging initiatives:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">-IIIF<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">-OSCI<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">-Art Tracks project at Carnegie Museum<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Meeting Attendees: Samantha Deutch, Gabriel Rodriguez, Jason Varone, Ellen Prokop, Helen Wall, Marija Dalbello, Lisa Schermerhorn, Molly Schoen, Francine Snyder Preliminary Meeting Notes: -Feb. 11, 10-12pm, 2-5pm is the official time for our participation in NYCDAH week.
