SUMMARY:DH Project Management
DESCRIPTION:The Digital Humanities landscape is littered with the good ideas of enterprising scholars never realized. From the lack of a clearly defined project scope\, to insufficient resources\, to over ambitious scheduling\, there are a myriad of factors that can derail even the best of DH projects. And while we can not account for every potential problem and obstacle\, strong project management skills can help to take a vision\, keep it on track\, and make it a reality. This workshop will focus on building these critical skills\, exploring a variety of tools and tactics available to successfully plan and develop a DH project throughout its entire life cycle. Join us for an overview of tools to add to your DH project management tool kit and to brainstorm methods to move your DH project forward.

SUMMARY:Tips and Strategies for Enacting Interdisciplinary Scholarship and Working Collaboratively
DESCRIPTION:Within the DH community\, we often talk about interdisciplinarity and collaboration as a given. But in reality\, there remain very real obstacles to working in these ways. Institutional resistance\, orthodoxy in one’s field\, or a lack of visible partners can all make it very difficult to find the proper environment to do interdisciplinary or collaborative work. In this session\, we hope to gather people from both sides of the coin\, those who’ve been able to find collaborations and those for whom it has been a struggle. We will share strategies and stories and discuss how along with administrative\, disciplinary\, and technical obstacles\, these environments can be both enabled and hindered by personalities and dispositions towards working together and negotiating how to manage the reins of control.

SUMMARY:Doing DH at a Predominantly Technical University
DESCRIPTION:Do you work at a predominantly technical university? Are you Interested in developing curricula and degree programs in Digital Humanities? This workshop will introduce work being done to develop Digital Humanities at ITMO University in Saint-Petersburg (Russia)\, which recently established an International DH Lab co-directed by workshop instructors Antonina Puchkovskaya and Kimon Keramidas. During the workshop\, we will share the challenges of developing DH curriculum and programming at a predominantly technical university\, address the different administrative and pedagogical perspectives at tech institutions\, discuss how getting buy-in from constituencies can pose particular challenges. We will also discuss how collaborative work started during NYCDH Week 2018 led to the establishment of the center and the development of a MA in Digital Humanities that will be launching in the fall of 2019. The workshop will also cover using the cultural heritage sector to find projects and an open conversation with people already working or just starting to develop DH in environments such as this. \nRequirements: none.
