{"id":1624,"date":"2018-01-18T15:43:48","date_gmt":"2018-01-18T20:43:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dhweek.nycdh.org\/?post_type=tribe_events&#038;p=1624"},"modified":"2018-02-07T12:20:47","modified_gmt":"2018-02-07T17:20:47","slug":"planning-and-prototyping-a-digital-humanities-project-2","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/nycdh.org\/dhweek\/event\/planning-and-prototyping-a-digital-humanities-project-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Planning and Prototyping a Digital Humanities Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For this workshop, I&#8217;m going to introduce three tools for prototyping a Digital Humanities Project for interaction.<\/p>\n<p>IDEA &amp; FORM<br \/>\nWe&#8217;ll introduce visual encoding methods, user-centered prototyping methods, and organizing principle for surveying the landscape and asking questions about your information.<\/p>\n<p>IDIOM<br \/>\nWe&#8217;ll look at common interactive patterns. We&#8217;ll use the Visual Information-Seeking Mantra to guide the interactive: Overview first, filter, zoom, and details on demand, to examine a user-centered experience.<\/p>\n<p>STRUCTURE<br \/>\nWe&#8217;ll look at simple sketching methods, pen on paper, working from the big picture to the details. Then, we&#8217;ll look at sketching from the details to the big picture, using Tableau Public, a free tool, to develop a story that answers the 6 W&#8217;s: Who, What, Where, When, How, and Why, and create an interactive prototype for online use, building from the details to the big picture (no coding needed). We&#8217;ll examine using a Story and Dashboard in Tableau to prototype and plan your project.<\/p>\n<p>CRAFT &amp; SURFACE<br \/>\nWe&#8217;ll look at design and interaction principles to make the reading experience much more personal, beautiful, and reader-friendly.
