Hello everyone,
This upcoming event from the Futures Initiative and the Graduate Center Library may be of interest to those working on digital dissertations and multimedia scholarship:
Friday, November 21, 1-3 p.m.: Digital Platforms for Multimedia Scholarship
A Scalar demo and discussion with Alexei Taylor and Diana Taylor (NYU), moderated by Jessie Daniels (The Graduate Center)
#remixscholar
#remixthediss
Join us in person at the Graduate Center (CUNY) in Room 9206, or online at the livestream, which will start here a few minutes before the event: http://bit.ly/FuturesED-live.
What is a digital “book”? What does it mean to publish and read online in a time when more and more people read on their devices? How does this effect/enhance scholarly writing? How do digital tools and platforms address the shift in the way knowledge is being acquired and disseminated in the classroom, nationally and internationally?
Scalar is a pioneering platform that offers scholars the tools to author media-rich online publications. These publications can contain streaming video, audio, interactive maps, graphs, tags, etc., and are already being used for dissertations and being published by university presses. Alexei Taylor, a digital interface designer, has worked with the platform for five years with students, faculty, presses, archives, and museums to explore how online tools can shape the present and pave the way for the future of academic publishing.
Refreshments will be provided. RSVP is encouraged, but not required.
This event is co-sponsored by Mina Rees Library, CUNY Graduate Center, The Futures Initiative and JustPublics@365.
