Mary McAleer Balkun is Professor of English and Founding Director of the Center for Faculty Development at Seton Hall University. She co-chairs the university’s Digital Humanities Committee and the New Jersey Digital Humanities Consortium. A scholar of early American literature, she is the author of The American Counterfeit: Authenticity and Identity in American Literature and Culture ((U of Alabama P, 2006), co-editor with Marta Deyrup of Global and Transformative Digital Humanities: Projects, Case Studies, and Challenges (Routledge, 2020).
co-editor with Susan C. Imbarrato of Women of the Early Americas and the Formation of Empire (Palgrave, 2016), associate editor of The Greenwood Encyclopedia of American Poets and Poetry: From the Colonial Era to the Present (Greenwood, 2015), associate editor of The Greenwood Encyclopedia of American Poets and Poetry (2005), and the author of numerous articles on early American topics, educational technology, and curricular change. She is currently at work on several book projects, including New World Upside Down (U of Alabama P), a study of the early American grotesque, and a Companion to American Poetry, with Jeff Gray and Paul Jaussen (Wiley-Blackwell).
