Projects | The Leon Levy Digital Collections — The Archives digitized 1.3 million pages dating from 1943 to 1970 in three years, making it freely available online. The Philharmonic has been keeping records on subscribers since 1842. Shamus Khan, a sociologist at Columbia University, is analyzing the orchestra’s subscriber lists to create a database mapping New York’s elites in the seats of the concert hall. He believes the records will offer snapshots of the city’s evolving social life. The Philharmonic’s Digital Archives will host the database on its Digital Archives site for future research use. |
