John Clegg is a doctoral candidate in Sociology at New York University. His research focuses on the historical formation of race and class inequality in the United States, with a particular interest in the legacy of slavery. For his dissertation he has, along with Michael Weaver at the University of Chicago, launched an online crowd-sourcing project to transcribe the military records of the United States Colored Troops. He has also written on theories of racial capitalism, historical trends in incarceration rates, and contemporary protest movements.
