Lucy Barnhouse is a Ph.D. candidate in medieval history. She recently completed a year at the Johannes-Gutenberg Universität in Mainz as a Fulbright Scholar. Her dissertation focuses on the legal status of medieval hospitals as religious institutions, and the influence of this status on the place of hospitals, including leper hospitals, in the religious and social networks of late medieval cities.
