This workshop will introduce participants to creating static maps using QGIS.
QGIS is an open source mapping software that allows users to create maps and analyze data with a spatial component. This workshop is intended for those new to GIS who want to get started creating maps.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Create a base map
- Add layers of data to a basemap
- Perform a spatial join on two data sets
- Perform calculations on a data set within QGIS.
These skills provide the foundation for analyzing spatial data and representing it for further analysis. We will discuss where to find spatial data as well. Participants in this workshop are encouraged to take the second half of this workshop where we will cover turning QGIS maps into web maps using Leaflet.
