Over the last thirty years, the internet has become of vital importance to daily life, especially in the time of the COVID-19 pandemic when nearly all interactions for non-essential workers have gone online. Nevertheless, accessibility on the internet has often remained a low priority, making this indispensable resource difficult to use for many people. Participants in this workshop will learn how to combat this problem by being proactive in their own design. We will discuss why accessibility is important, best practices for designing an accessible site or visualization, and some of the follies of “universal design.” We will conclude with some hands-on practice with accessibility checkers that participants can use for their own work.
Note to all attendees: Session leaders will contact you with additional information, including a meeting link, for each individual workshop, event, or demonstration.
