The Preservation Department at Yale University Library is beginning a multi-year project to digitally reformat approximately 21,000 unique audiovisual (AV) items from the following collections: The Medical Historical Library, the Divinity Library, Manuscripts and Archives, the Robert B. Haas Family Arts Library, and the Irving S. Gilmore Music Library.

The Preservation Department’s Digital Reformatting & Microfilming Services unit is seeking a full-time professional with knowledge of AV formats, digitization standards, and project management to coordinate the daily operations of this project. The successful candidate will: work with content owners and with digitization vendors and in-house video reformatting (Samma Solos) staff to identify which collections should be prepared for reformatting next; manage transfer logistics; add items to the workflow tracking system which pulls metadata from either the Library’s OPAC or ArchivesSpace; oversee quality control; stage files for ingestion into the digital preservation repository (Preservica); advise on format-specific concerns regarding analog AV; and arrange for return and disposition of original analog materials.

Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree plus two to four years of experience in the field or a Master’s degree in a related field with a demonstrated familiarity with a wide range of analog AV formats and the practices, procedures, and standards associated with their digitization and preservation. A Master’s degree with an emphasis in the archiving and preservation of audio visual formats, along with Project Management training is preferred.

The position is a three-year term position with the possibility of extension. Salary range and benefits information: Senior Associate (23) $58,500 – $60,000. Anticipated start date: July 1, 2017.
