Seeking Adjuncts to teach GIS Courses at Manhattan College

      Manhattan College is seeking adjunct instructors to teach GIS courses in-person during 2023-2024. Salary begins at $4300 a course. Please send a c.v. and evidence of teaching experience to roksana.badruddoja@manhattan.edu Courses needed are listed below.

      SOC 253: Crime Mapping
      This course provides a practical introduction to analyzing and mapping crime and sociological data using ArcGIS geographic information system (GIS) software. Students will learn skills to make and analyze maps, including a critical understanding of how maps are used in policing, and will develop a solid base upon which to build further expertise in crime mapping and GIS.

      SOC 225. Telling Stories with Maps. 3 Credits.
      This course introduces the concepts and components of geospatial thinking through a geographic information system (GIS), exploring how to visualize a story using maps. We work in Tableau, Google Earth, and ESRI’s ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcMap software packages. Course topics include story design, spatial data acquisition, projection systems, spatial analysis, and cartographic design.

      SOC 296. Introduction to Human Geography.
      This course introduces students to the field of human geography. We journey through the discipline’s history and origins, modern geography and the scientific revolution, to postmodernism and GIS science. The course will cover geographic theory, including the concept of place and its impact on identity formation, the links between urban and rural spaces, regional interdependencies, among other topics.
